King and Queens
Zurius (Sushi)
Sushi is our male Maine Coon king. Males are known for their impressive size, tufted ears, and bushy tail, making them one of the largest domesticated cat breeds. Male Maine Coons weigh between 13 to 20 pounds, and our Sushi is currently 20 lbs. Some males can even exceed that, depending on genetics and health. Sushi’s parents were 25 and 22 lbs. He is imported from Russia. His muscular build combined with a long, flowing cream red-shaded coat gives him an elegant yet robust appearance.
Personality-wise, Sushi is a gentle giant. He is known for his friendly and sociable demeanor, enjoying the company of humans and other pets. Regularly playful, he is also quite intelligent, often engaging in games that stimulate his mind. His gentle nature carries on into his kittens, making them excellent companions.
Sushi tends to be more laid-back and tolerant than some other breeds. This trait in Maine Coons allows them to adapt well to various living environments. They are typically loyal and form strong bonds with their owners, showcasing a playful and affectionate side that endears them to many.
Overall, a male Maine Coon cat makes a wonderful pet, bringing warmth and companionship to any home.
Quinn, Dorothy, Kita
Quinn and Dorothy are sisters, and both have the classic black/brown tabby Maine Coon coat. Kita is a black smoke tortie imported from Ukraine and is yet to produce a litter. All our girls have wonderful temperments and innate mothering qualities and often take care of each other’s kittens. Quinn is registered with ACA and Kita is registered with WCF and CFA.
When considering the role of female Maine Coon queens in breeding, it is essential to recognize their significant contribution to the breed's characteristics and genetics. These queens are not only vital for producing healthy litters but also for preserving the distinctive traits that Maine Coons are known for, such as their robust size, tufted ears, and friendly disposition.
Our queens are selected based on various factors, including health, temperament, and conformation to breed standards. Health testing is crucial to mitigate genetic diseases common in the breed, ensuring that both the queen and her kittens have the best chance for a long, healthy life. Common tests include assessments for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and hip dysplasia, among others. At Maine Meow, our queens have been checked and tested negative for FeLV and FIV.
Our queens typically have one to two litters per year, with an average of three to five kittens per litter. Breeding practices are carefully monitored to allow our queens adequate rest and recovery time between litters. We provide a nurturing environment for the queen during pregnancy and nursing, as her health directly affects the quality of her kittens.
Temperament is also an important consideration when selecting a queen. The calm, friendly nature of our queens Quinn, Dorothy and Kita will often be passed down to their offspring, contributing to the breed's reputation for being sociable and affectionate companions. We ensure that our queens are well-socialized and interact positively with humans and other animals to enhance the overall disposition of the kittens.
